This new round of class presentations from all the groups was not only informative but also very engaging in how everyone delivered their information. The addition of professional interviews added a whole new level of credibility and interest to the projects. Hearing from experts who spoke from real experience was fascinating because they weren’t just talking about theories—they were sharing their knowledge and insights in a way that connected deeply with the audience. I felt that all the groups who included interviews used them effectively to support their points and highlight key topics. The experts brought so much more meaning to the presentations, helping every group strengthen their overall message. One of the presentations that stood out to me the most was the one that connected immigration and the economy. These are both topics that are very relevant today, especially with ongoing political discussions under the current Trump administration. Because immigration and econo...

Reflection on new presenations

Kevin Cabrera This new round of presentations from all the groups was not only informative, but also very engaging in how they delivered their information. I found that the addition of interviews from professionals really added to the credibility of the presentation while also keeping the audience interested. I was always intrigued by the expert interviews. Seeing them speaking from experience was really interesting since they were just pouring all their knowledge out for the interviewer and everyone who watched the presentation. As well as this, I feel all the interviewers used their interviews effectively so they could elevate their points and highlight important topics. The experts truly added to all the presentations, and I feel all the presenters effectively used the interviews to add impact to their points and words. One of the presentations that stuck out to me the most was one that tied together themes of immigration and the economy. I found this one to be quite interesting...

Second blog for fall presentation

Reflecting on Our Class Presentation Our recent class presentation is definitely one of my favorites. Each of us worked on different topics which tied into larger issues of civic engagement, and my group focused on education and the environment. Specifically, I chose to present on how education impacts the social environment. I was genuinely excited about this topic, and as I look back on the whole process, I’m grateful for the opportunity to dive into something so meaningful. It’s always great to learn from peers, and this project definitely helped me think more critically about the topics we discussed. In this post, I’ll write on what I learned, what I enjoyed about our group’s presentation, and some personal thoughts from listening to my classmates. Presentation Design One of the important aspects of our project was the way we organized and designed our presentation. I think presentation design is often underestimated, but I feel like it can really make a huge difference wh...

Melany Alfonso Mantrana Theme Project Reflection Reflecting on our class presentations, I was really impressed by how deeply everyone engaged with complex topics like immigration, civic action, healthcare, and environmental responsibility. Listening to my classmates explain these issues helped me see how they connect to real people’s lives, beyond just theory or politics. Instead of feeling like we were reciting information, each group made their topic meaningful by connecting it to culture, economy, and society. These presentations made me realize that civic education is most powerful when it connects human stories to larger systems. One of the presentations focused on immigration and economic development. The introduction set the tone by explaining how immigration reflects a country’s values and political structure. The group examined how immigration policies and philosophies differ across countries with different governments, showing how politics directly shapes people’s opportuniti...
Julien Morales The presentation I am not a great pick when it comes to presenting. I get super anxious and sweaty, and I lose myself. Listening to other people present before me usually helps with my nerves. During the presentations, however, the professor was very encouraging and sweet with the way she was speaking, and with the people presenting. I felt at ease. By the time I finally stood up to speak, I still had that nervous energy, but I also felt more comfortable knowing it was okay to make mistakes. Being in that environment taught me that presenting isn’...

My Public Speaking Journey So far  Before I took this class I didn’t think much about public speaking. I always thought it was something people were just naturally good at or not. I never really felt confident when speaking in front of others. I would get nervous and just try to get it over with as fast as possible. But after going through this course and being part of all the presentations I’ve realized public speaking is more than just talking. It’s a skill that you can build and something that can actually be really useful in everyday life. What I Learned From Class Presentations During class we had different groups present chapters from the textbook. I liked this because it helped break down the material in a way that was easy to understand. Each group had a different topic so I learned something new from every presentation. The topics were all connected to public speaking but each one focused on different parts like audience, preparation, research, and delivery. One thi...

Reflection on the presentations

Kevin Cabrera In the past few weeks, all the presentations we viewed about public speaking were all very informative and I feel like I genuinely learned from not only researching and presenting the project for my group, but also just listening to the other presentations. We covered a wide variety of topics all within the scope of public speaking, and yet the information never felt repetitive or trite. Every presentation brought a new perspective, and each individual slide carried its own advice for how to most effectively deliver your points in public speaking. Presentation 1: The first presentation covered chapters one, two, three, and five, all under the title of “The important tricks for a great presentation”. The first part of the presentation covered the basics of understanding your crowd to create a better connection between you and your audience. The last thing you would want to do in a speech is to alienate your listeners, so some good tips for presenting were covered. Thi...
